My flag is intended as a peaceful protest...a chance to talk about how our democracy doesn't seem to be functioning very well lately in my opinion.
We will be holding an election to select the most powerful political leader in the world...but we seem to be fumbling our way through the process, almost as if we don't really know what we are doing.
It's simple. Running the same candidate time...after time...after time again...just doesn't seem like a democracy to me.
It seems like the Republican Party is saying to voters in the general election "We are going to shove this guy down your throat...like it or not".
While I support the right of people to support Trump if they wish, the Republican Party running him in three consecutive presidential elections is alienating others who wish to move on to someone new.
Way back in the summer of 2023 it was obvious to me (and many others, I am sure) that Biden should not seek re-election...but he did.
It was obvious at various points in the primary that Biden should reconsider...but he insisted on continuing.
He continued until it was too late...and then hand-selected his successor and stepped aside. That just doesn't seem like a democracy to me. Having the outgoing leader anoint his replacement isn't the way we should be doing things in this country.
Did we get someone new...yes.
Did we do it the right way...no.
In my opinion, the last time we had a "good" choice in a presidential election was back in 2012...Obama vs Romney. Both were competent, functioning leaders worthy of respect on the world stage.
Then 2016 came...and the Democrats decided to take another shot at shoving Hillary Clinton down the country's throat. The result...we vomited up Trump.
In 2020, the Democrats decided to dust off Joe Biden...assuming he would be an easier pill for the country to swallow...and it worked...until it didn't.
Now, in 2024, our choice is Harris vs Trump:
Vote for the "anointed-one"
(even though you didn't vote for her in the primary)
...or...
Vote for the "third-time's-a-charm rerun"
What a lousy choice.
See what I mean about our democracy not working well lately?
Thus, my flag.
